You can be the world’s best website designer and can even program the most advanced website. But can they by themselves bring traffic to your website? No, they can’t. You need a small ingredient to make this dish much more  attractive and delicious. And that is – “a good idea“.

I might sound like Leonardo di caprio, but an idea really decides the fate of a website. A good idea can take your website to the top, whereas a useless idea won’t do any help to your website. It will die for visitors and ultimately it will die one day.

So an idea has to be good enough to attract visitors. It should be good enough to make attractive marketing campaigns and most importantly it should be good enough to help the users in some way, so that they can use your website again and again. But this is not enough as you can see a lot of websites on a same subject, but only a few leading the pack. It depends upon the way the idea is presented and the way the website serves the users. The key factors in that are:

1. How can your idea serve the needs of the people in the best possible manner?
2. How can you relate it to the maximum number of people?
3. How can you make it different and more attractive from the similar websites available in the market?

So it is not necessary to think of a new and different idea. You can alter the already existing idea, make it better and then launch it with maximum publicity (bookmarking, paid marketing, SEO, article submission etc.). But still there are some website ideas which are over saturated and have been extracted to its core. Here is a lost of the ideas which you shouldn’t go for in the present time:

1. Social Networking Website: Facebook is tremendously popular. You cannot beat it at any cost, especially at this time. Either wait for the people to get bored with it, or think of an extremely different idea like Second Life (which will create you a niche audience). But don’t create a website similar to Facebook or Myspace thinking that luck will rain on you.
2. Project Sharing Website: A website like Elance should not be created at this time as it will be a total waste of time. Unless you don’t know atleast 100 persons from both the sides who will be willing to be your members, don’t even dare to think about creating it. Trust me, it can prove to be your worst nightmare.
3. A copy of any renowed website: If you are thinking of copying the idea of any renowed website, then stop thinking about it immediately. The first impression which you will get of the people would be that you are a copycat and that it is not your original idea. Unless you have something better to add in it, don’t trust your luck to much with these websites.
4. After you have agreed on an idea of making a website, you have to make sure if you want a registration page on your website? If yes, then please make sure that you keep the registration form short and simple. Look at the registration page of Management Point(www.managementpoint.info). Honestly, there is nothing left to it now. Moreover they are already a rage among the users. So copying that idea would make you look more like a thief and less like a creative person. Instead of copying these websites, you should use your creative brain to think of a very innovative idea to serve the unsatisfied needs of the people.  The best you can do is to think of a new or different idea and then promote your website through Traffup or other social media marketing tools.
